Man charged with attempted murder after 'horror stabbing' in the street

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a 41-year-old man was stabbed in the chest and arms.

Police were called out to Rutland Avenue in Halewood during the early hours of Wednesday morning following reports of a stabbing in the street.

On arrival they discovered a 41-year-old man with stab wounds to his chest and arms.

The victim was taken to hospital, where his condition was described as serious but stable. There was a heavy police presence in the area after the incident.

Police have now said that Ian Robert Gargan, 39, of Applewood Court, Halewood, has been charged with attempted murder. He has been remanded in custody and is set to appear at Liverpool Magistrates court tomorrow.

A 29-year-old woman from Aigburth who was arrested on  suspicion of attempted murder has been released on conditional bail as enquiries continue.
