Man charged with attempted murder after arrow shot through girl's hand, phone and stomach

Police remained on scene at the supermarket on Wednesday morning.

A 25-year-old Ipswich man has faced court this morning charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting a teenage girl with a bow and arrow.

Police have alleged Benjamin Bourke entered an Aldi supermarket at Booval just after 4:30pm yesterday dressed in a mask and a black hoodie before he began firing a compound bow.

One arrow fired towards the back of the store injured a 15-year-old girl.

She was struck in the hand and stomach and was taken to the Queensland Children's Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

A witness, who didn't want to be named, said he thought it was lucky the girl was holding her phone.

"It was a thick phone. The arrow went through her finger, through the phone and then stopped," he said.

"She was in pain but ok."

After the alleged attack, Mr Bourke was detained by members of the public inside the store until police were able to arrest him.

Police said before the supermarket incident, Mr Bourke had walked from the Booval Railway Station and allegedly shot at a female jogger but had missed her.

They also believe he fired at a passing car.

Investigators are appealing for the car's driver, the woman and anyone else who may have witnessed Mr Bourke yesterday afternoon to come forward.

Mr Bourke was charged with attempted murder, torture and going armed so as to cause fear.

He did not apply for bail and will face court again next month.
