Man charged with attempted murder after female police officer stabbed in face with pen

A man has been charged with the attempted murder after a female police officer was stabbed in the face with a pen in north London.

Adrian Popa, 39, of no fixed abode, is due to appear at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The officer was subjected to a "vicious and unprovoked" attack in Manor Park Crescent, Edgware, at around 10.25am on Sunday August 16 while making an arrest.

She has since been discharged from hospital.

The man was tasered by other officers and taken to hospital after the attack.

Roy Smith, BCU Commander for North West London, said on Sunday: “Sadly this is yet another reminder of the risks faced by our police officers as they respond to calls for help from the communities of London.

“The men and women of the Met go to work each day not knowing the dangers they may face. They run towards danger to protect others and their everyday heroism is something all Londoners should be proud of."

He added: “This officer was subjected to a vicious and unprovoked attack. These are our police officers and they have family and loved ones to return home to. They deserve not only our admiration but also support.”
