Man faces court on attempted murder charge after allegedly stabbing police officer in Torquay

A man has faced a Geelong court charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a police officer in Torquay, south-west of Melbourne on Monday.

Victoria Police said the senior constable was allegedly attacked while conducting a welfare check at an address in the Great Ocean Road town.

The police officer remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Adam Bray, 49, has been charged with attempted murder and assaulting an emergency worker on duty and appeared in Geelong Magistrates' Court today.

The Torquay man did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody.

He will return to court in February next year.
