A man charged with the alleged sexual assault of a young girl in the Hunter two years ago has faced court in Sydney.
The 41-year-old man did not apply for bail when he faced Campbeltown Local Court on Wednesday for one count of sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 10.
Police allege the man sexually assaulted a nine-year-old girl - who was known to him - in the Hunter region in 2018.
The man cannot be identified, in order to protect the identity of the child.
Detectives from the State Crime Command's Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad began an investigation into the alleged assault in June.
They arrested the man at Campbeltown Police Station on Tuesday afternoon, where he was charged.
He was refused police bail before facing court on Wednesday, where he did not apply for release.
Magistrate George Breton adjourned the matter to Thursday.
