A man accused of bashing an elderly woman outside a Melbourne church as she opened it for services on Saturday morning has faced court.

Amrick Roy, 26, did not apply for bail in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.

He's facing six charges over two separate attacks on March 13.

It's alleged he assaulted a 78-year-old woman at the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox church in South Yarra just after 6am on Saturday.

He's accused of intentionally and recklessly causing serious injury to the woman, robbing her and stealing a trolley from her.

Roy is also facing charges of intentionally and recklessly causing injury to a second person in Prahran.

His lawyer Ellen Murphy asked that Roy receive medical treatment for a head laceration.

Roy is due back in court on June 16.
