Man charged over 'unattended bag' at Glasgow Airport after terminal evacuated

A man has been arrested in connection with an unattended bag incident which saw an area of Glasgow Airport evacuated.

Police were called to the airport around 6.30pm on Monday (July 4) amid concerns over an unattended bag.

The Daily Record reports that a 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged following the incident, which saw the domestic arrivals terminal closed while police conducted checks of the area. All incoming flights at the time were diverted to the international arrivals terminal and some passengers were left unable to disembark.

He is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court today.

A spokesperson for Glasgow Airport said: “At approximately 6.30pm on Monday 4 July, Police Scotland attended the airport following reports of an unattended bag in domestic arrivals. Access to this part of the terminal was temporarily restricted, as is standard procedure, while checks were carried out. The area reopened at 8.30pm.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 6.30pm on Monday, 4 July, 2022, officers received a report of an unattended bag in the domestic arrivals hall of Glasgow Airport. The area was evacuated as a precaution. Following enquiries, it was established there was no risk to the public.

"The airport was then fully re-opened. A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with this incident.

"He is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Tuesday, 5 July. A report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.”
