No bail for man charged over thefts of laptops, iPads, tools at Cardiff

A man is facing a range of charges, accused of breaking into two Lake Macquarie businesses and stealing tools, electrical items and industrial equipment.

Police arrested 31-year-old Birmingham Gardens man Luke Christopher Trugett on Wednesday afternoon when they stopped a Mazda 6 on Minmi Road at Fletcher.

A search of the car allegedly uncovered several items believed to have been stolen - including laptops, iPads and power tools - as well as methylamphetamine and house-breaking instruments.

Mr Trugett was taken to Toronto Police Station and charged with two counts of destroying/damaging property and one count each of trespassing, larceny, aggravated break and enter in company, aggravated break and enter to commit an indictable offence, possessing prohibited drugs, possessing house-breaking instruments and having suspected stolen goods.

Police will allege in court the 31-year-old was also involved in thefts in the Newcastle area in December, 2020.

Mr Trugett did not apply for bail in Toronto Local Court on Thursday. The matter was adjourned to March 16.
