A 28-year-old man will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court charged with attempted murder. (AAP)

A Brisbane man has been charged with attempted murder after stabbing a man he knew and headbutting a police officer at a south Brisbane home.

Police said the 28-year-old got into an argument with another man, 35, at a home on Crowther St, West End, about 5pm on Monday.

The younger man allegedly stabbed the other man in the chest and leg.

Officers and paramedics gave the injured man first aid and took him to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The younger man was arrested and taken to the Dutton Park Police Station, where he became uncooperative.

He then allegedly headbutted a police officer, giving him minor injuries.

The 28-year-old was charged with attempted murder and serious assault of a police officer causing bodily harm.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court later on Tuesday.
