Man charged over serious crash at Lake Macquarie

A man will face court next month charged over a serious crash at Lake Macquarie last year.

Emergency services were called to Bareki Road, Eleebana, about 9.15pm on October 19 following reports a Honda Civic travelling north and a Ford Mondeo travelling south collided at the intersection of Eleebana Road.

The driver of the Honda - a 46-year-old man from Abermain - was trapped for a short time before being taken to John Hunter Hospital with serious internal injuries. He has since been released.

Two children in the Ford - a five-year-old and a six-week-old - suffered serious head injuries and were taken to John Hunter Hospital. They have also since been released.

The male driver of the Ford, 36, and his female passenger, 31, were uninjured.

Following extensive inquiries, police attended a home on Cessnock Road, Abermain, and spoke with the 46-year-old man.

Police said on Wednesday the man was charged with two counts of causing bodily harm by misconduct while in charge of a motor vehicle.

He was also charged with one count each of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm (drive manner dangerous), negligent driving (occasioning grievous bodily harm), negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm), driving a vehicle with an illicit drug present in his blood and not keeping left of dividing line (not class B/C vehicle).

The man will face Belmont Local Court on April 21.
