Man charged over serious assault in Scots town police continue search for two teen girls

A man has been arrested and charged following a serious assault in a Scots town as police continue their hunt for two teenage girls.

A 52-year-old male was allegedly attacked outside a takeaway in Stirling Street, Airdrie, North Lanarkshire on June 12.

On Monday, Lanarkshire Police Division revealed that a 31-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

He is expected to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court at a later date.

Police are also looking to trace two teenage girls thought to 'also be allegedly involved'.

They are both described as Scottish and of a slim build, aged between 14 and 16 years old.

Officers thanked locals for their help with the previous appeal and urge anyone who can help with the remainder of their investigation to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Mark Nelson said: “I’d like to thank the public for their assistance with this investigation so far, following our previous appeal.

“We’d ask anyone with further information to please call 101, quoting incident number 4214 of Saturday, June 12.

"Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
