Man charged over murder of Scots dad who died days before Christmas

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the murder of a Scots dad who died just days before Christmas.

The 24-year-old was detained by officers probing the death of William "Billy" McGuire, 25.

The suspect is due to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court (Lennox Herald.)

McGuire was found injured at a property in Perth Crescent, Clydebank, near Glasgow, at around 12.05am on December 21, 2020.

A 34-year-old man was also found injured at the scene and both were rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

But McGuire passed away a short time later, prompting a murder probe to be launched, and Police Scotland confirmed the arrest of a suspect this evening.

Detective Chief Inspector Alan McAlpine, of the Major Investigation Team, said: "Our enquiries continue and I want to thank the community for their assistance so far.

"We continue to support Billy's family and urge anyone who has information which can help, and has not yet been in touch, to contact police."

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101.

Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The suspect is due to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Saturday, January 2, 2021.
