A man is accused of manufacturing prohibited firearms after police seized three submachine guns from a western Sydney home.
Police raided the South Penrith home on Wednesday, seizing 50 items including the homemade guns.
They also found instruction manuals, a stolen motorcycle, ammunition and other weapons, as well as prohibited drugs including ice, heroin and cocaine.
When the accused 45-year-old man was arrested in Penrith earlier on Wednesday, police said officers found $6000 cash on him.
He was charged with possessing and manufacturing prohibited firearms. Police will allege in court he was manufacturing powerful firearms in his home.
The man was refused bail and will appear at Penrith Local Court on Thursday.
Detective Acting Inspector Ashlee DeBakker said in a statement the guns had been seized for forensic examination.
"Our investigators have worked swiftly to respond to information relating to the manufacture of prohibited weapons in the local area and have successfully removed extremely harmful guns and weapons from the community," he said.
