Man charged over hit-and-run death of woman in Alice Springs

A 39-year-old woman died on the weekend in what is alleged to have been a hit-run incident.

A man has faced court over a host of driving charges including hit-and-run, after a 39-year-old woman died in Alice Springs on the weekend.

NT Police today charged a 32-year-old man with dangerous driving causing death, hit-and-run, driving while disqualified, driving unregistered and driving uninsured.

The incident occurred at the Hidden Valley town camp on Saturday night.

Detective Sergeant Michael Schumacher said the woman became pinned underneath a vehicle on Sunday, and that witnesses and police at the time were able to free her.

She was treated on-scene by paramedics, but died from her injuries.

The man arrested has been bailed to appear in Alice Springs Local Court on September 5.
