Man charged over fatal head-on crash, another man dies after car collides with horse

Police said a Kersbrook man was arrested on Wednesday over the fatal crash.

A man has been charged with death by dangerous driving over a fatal crash in South Australia's Adelaide Hills region earlier this week.

Police and emergency services were called to the crash on South Para Road, Kersbrook, just after 7:15pm on Tuesday.

They said a Ford utility and a Peugeot station wagon had collided head-on.

A 47-year-old woman from Hindmarsh Island, who was driving the ute, was airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, but died shortly after arrival.

A 44-year-old Kersbrook man who was driving the Peugeot was taken to the Lyell McEwin Hospital with minor injuries.

Police today arrested the 44-year-old man and charged him with causing death by dangerous driving.

He has been bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on April 29.

Any witnesses of the crash or anyone who saw either vehicle prior to the crash have been asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Driver killed when car hits horse

In a separate incident, a man died when his car hit a horse on Horrocks Highway, in South Australia's Mid North.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene, just north of Wirrabara, about 6:50am.

The driver, a 55-year-old man from the Mid North, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and died at the scene, police said.

The Horrocks Highway is closed between Wirrabara and Murray Town, with diversions in place for motorists.

Heavy vehicles are being diverted at Laura through Apilla and Booleroo Centre back to Murray Town.

Major Crash are investigating the crash scene and police have asked people to avoid the area.

Police said the man's death was the 23rd life lost on South Australian roads in 2020, compared to 25 at the same time last year.
