Man charged over Falkirk protest as cops crack down on coronavirus rule breakers

A man has been charged accused of causing fear and alarm in the community after a protest in Falkirk.

It comes as cops crack down on people flouting coronavirus rules and warn that tougher action could be brought against those responsible.

Over the past few weeks a number of "peaceful" gatherings have taken place outside properties in Bainsford.

One person involved, who didn't want to be named, told the Daily Record: "The protests are peaceful at all times and when cops turn up we always follow their advice."

A gathering of up to 20 people was reported on Glynwed Court.

Current coronavirus regulations state that you're only allowed to leave your house for an essential reason.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: A Police Scotland spokesperson said: " We can confirm a 32-year-old man has been charged following a protest at an address on Glynwed Court, Falkirk."

“Under the current enhanced Level 4 restrictions, such gatherings are not permitted.

“As they have done throughout the pandemic our officers will engage with the public, explain the restrictions, encourage compliance and, as a last resort, use enforcement where required.

"We are asking people to take personal responsibility and stay at home in order to protect our NHS and save lives."
