Man charged over Elermore Vale armed robbery on bail for home invasion

Zac Rolls-Fitzgerald was arrested at Elermore Vale on Monday.

A MAN accused of robbing a teenager at gunpoint at Elermore Vale on Saturday was on bail for his alleged role in an attempted home invasion at Valentine.

Zac Rolls-Fitzgerald, 22, appeared briefly in Newcastle Local Court on Monday charged with armed robbery and acquiring a firearm subject to a prohibition order.

He did not enter any pleas or apply for bail and the matter was adjourned until Tuesday.

Police say a boy, 17, went to a unit on Smith Street, Elermore Vale, about 4.30pm on Saturday and spoke with Mr Rolls-Fitzgerald.

Police allege Mr Rolls-Fitzgerald threatened the 17-year-old with a firearm before the teenager handed over cash and left the unit.

Newcastle City police launched an investigation and about 7am on Monday officers, with assistance from police negotiators and the Tactical Operations Region Support (TORS) Group, went to a unit on Smith Street, Elermore Vale, and spoke with Ms Rolls-Fitzgerald.

Police said Mr Rolls-Fitzgerald peacefully surrendered and was arrested about 7.40am.

He was later charged and refused bail.

Mr Rolls-Fitzgerald is one of nine people charged over an attempted home invasion at Valentine in May, 2019.

On that occasion two car loads of people armed themselves with a 12-gauge shotgun, a knife and three baseballs bats and tried, unsuccessfully, to get into a house on Berringar Road.

Mr Rolls-Fitzgerald has not entered any pleas to charges of affray, armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, use an offensive weapon in company with intent and possession of a shortened firearm in relation to the Valentine home invasion.

He is next due in court in relation to that matter on Wednesday.

A firearm seized during the raid on Monday.
