Man charged over death of couple in west London motorway crash

A man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a couple were killed in a collision on a west London motorway.

On Saturday, June 1, a black BMW 320i collided with a white Volkswagen Golf on the M4 westbound at Junction 4, Hillingdon.

Metropolitan Police officers were called to the area shortly before midnight.

One of the occupants of the Volkswagen, 63-year-old Mohammed Haglia, died at the scene after being treated by paramedics.

Diljan Hagila, 62, was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition but sadly died a week later on June 6.

A 29-year-old man was also taken to hospital, but his injuries were assessed to not be life-threatening or life-changing.

The family of the couple and the survivor of the collision are being supported by specialist officers.

Maninder Singh Brar, 28, of Hayes, was charged on Sunday with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing death while uninsured and failing to stop following a road traffic collision.

He was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of the following offences:

Brar will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court later today.

Acting Detective Inspector Fiaz Janjua, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is a truly tragic incident, in which two members of the public have lost their lives.

“Our deepest sympathies remain with the family of Mohammed and Diljan Hagila at this incredibly difficult time.

“I would urge anyone who may have information that has not yet been shared with police, to come forward and speak to us.”
