Man charged over death of 45-year-old in Airdrie on Easter Sunday

A man has been charged over the death of a 45-year-old in Airdrie.

Local sources told the Daily Record Peter Mcelroy died following a disturbance on  High Street  at around 4.40pm on Easter Sunday.

Emergency services raced to the street but sadly Peter was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 38-year-old man was arrested over the incident and has now been charged.

He is due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court tomorrow, Tuesday April 14.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police Scotland can now confirm a 38-year-old man has now been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a 45-year-old man in Airdrie.

"Officers were called to the High Street in Airdrie around 4.40pm on Sunday, 12 April, 2020 following a disturbance.

"The 45-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in due course and the man is expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court tomorrow."
