Police say the accused and victims are "known to each other". (Facebook: Tasmania Police)

A man who allegedly stabbed a 42-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man after entering a house north of Hobart yesterday breached a family violence order against him 18 times, police say.

In a statement, Tasmania Police said they had charged a "46-year-old man in relation to a wounding incident" at Bridgewater on Tuesday.

Police said the man was armed with a knife and had "gained entry" to a home on Maxwell Drive around 8:50am on Tuesday.

They said the 18-year-old man "sustained a significant laceration to his torso" while the woman "sustained significant lacerations to her hand and arm".

Police said the "victims and offender were all known to each other".

The man has been charged with two counts of wounding, one count of common assault and "18 breaches of interim family violence order", police said.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court later today.
