Man faces court for alleged attempted murder of cleaner in shopping centre toilets

The Parabanks attack happened in the shopping centre's toilets area.

A man charged with attempted murder for allegedly attacking a female cleaner in the toilets of a shopping centre in Adelaide's northern suburbs this week has been remanded in custody after a brief court appearance.

Police said the man's vehicle was pulled over by officers in Kings Road at Parafield Gardens about 8:30pm last night.

The 25-year-old Salisbury East man later was charged with attempted murder and faced the Elizabeth Magistrates Court this afternoon.

He did not apply for bail during the hearing and the court imposed a suppression order on his name while police investigations continue.

Paramedics and police were called to Parabanks shopping centre at Salisbury just after 8:00pm on Monday after a 30-year-old cleaner was assaulted by an attacker with a knife, leaving her with serious injuries to her face and back.

The attack was declared a major crime by police in the past day, with Major Crime detectives and the Northern District CIB combining their investigative efforts.

The accused man also has been charged with driving while disqualified and unregistered, and with carrying an offensive weapon.

The cleaner was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment of her injuries, with medical staff deeming they were not life-threatening.
