Reports of a bushfire on the Woy Woy Road at Woy Woy in the early hours of Saturday morning drew emergency crews to the scene of a blaze which damaged around 150 square metres of bushland, NSW Police said.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews quickly extinguished the fire as officers from the Brisbane Water Police District began making inquries.

A 27 year-old man was arrested nearby, a short time later, and taken to Gosford Police Station.

He was charged with intentionally causing a fire and being reckless as to its spread, a police spokesperson said.

The man, who was from Woy Woy, appeared in Newcastle Bail Court on Saturday where he was formally refused bail to at Gosford Local Court on Monday.
