A 29-year-old man has been charged after a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Alice Springs.
The child was reportedly taken from her home in the Alice Springs town camp of Hidden Valley, or Ewyenper-Atwatye, late on Saturday, the ABC reported.
Guardian Australia understands government organisations and the police are working with the community after the attack.
The family of the child claim she was dragged away from her brothers and sisters in the front yard and raped, the ABC report said.
Northern Territory police have confirmed that a 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged “following the sexual assault of a minor”.
The man was refused bail and will appear in the Alice Springs magistrates court on Monday, NT police said in a statement.
A spokeswoman declined to confirm further details.
Hidden Valley is one of the largest of the town camps in and around Alice Springs.
