Man charged over alleged 'racist and abusive' attack on BBC reporter Sima Kotecha

A man has been charged with public order offences after an alleged "racist and abusive" attack on a BBC reporter.

Leicestershire Police said the man would appear at court on Tuesday morning following the incident, which happened on Sunday.

The force did not disclose his name or age.

BBC journalist Sima Kotecha said she and her team were subjected to "racist and abusive behaviour" while preparing to broadcast from Leicester city centre on the weekend.

The segment was cancelled and the incident reported to police.

The BBC said: "While preparing to broadcast, our reporter, her production team and guests were subjected to racist and abusive behaviour.

"We are appalled by what happened and will be reporting the incident to the police.

"We will not tolerate racism or abuse of our staff."
