Police have charged a man with the murder of a 76-year-old woman in Cairns, in north Queensland.
The woman's body was found with significant head injuries at her Woree home early yesterday morning.
Police said the discovery was made during unrelated routine enquiries at the address.
Sarde Reginald McFadzean was charged with the woman's murder overnight and had his case briefly heard in the Cairns Magistrates Court this morning.
Authorities said Mr McFadzean was known to the deceased woman and frequented the address where she lived.
He will remain in custody, with the matter to return to court in August.
