Man charged over 18-year-old girlfriend's alleged murder faces court

Emerald Wardle, 18, died in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A man accused of murdering his 18-year-old girlfriend in a Maitland suburb last weekend has faced court again, with the matter being adjourned to later this year.

Jordan Brodie Miller, 20, did not apply for bail - and it was formally refused - when the matter was briefly mentioned in Maitland Local Court on Wednesday.

Mr Miller was charged on Saturday after the body of Emerald Wardle was found inside a Metford home in the early hours of the morning.

Police were called to the Galway Crescent address about 1.30am.

There, they allegedly found Mr Miller standing outside the home and Ms Wardle's body inside.

Port Stephens-Hunter police and detectives from the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad set up an investigation into the teenager's alleged murder.

Mr Miller previously faced Newcastle Local Court on Sunday, where he did not apply for bail.

On Wednesday, Magistrate John Chicken adjourned the matter to August 19, with Mr Miller expected to again appear via audio-visual link.
