Batemans Bay detectives have charged a man after a fire began in the Deua River Valley on Boxing Day.
A police spokesman said a 71-year-old man, from the Deua area, was charged at 5pm on Friday, December 27, with allegedly being an owner permitting a fire to escape and cause damage.
His arrest was alleged to be in relation to a fire burning in the Wandera State Forest, which borders the Deua National Park, north-west of Moruya on the Far South Coast.
Police will allege the fire was started on Boxing Day morning.
The man was charged under the Rural Fires Act and granted bail to appear at Moruya Local Court on January 10, 2020.
