Dec. 06--A man from Chicago's Little Village neighborhood was ordered held without bail Saturday after he was charged with first-degree murder in the November shooting of an acquaintance of his in the Lawndale neighborhood.
Leevert Anderson, 28, is charged in the killing of Jerald Strong, 24, on Nov. 3 in the 3200 block of West 15th Street, prosecutors said.
Anderson and Strong knew each other and had been in a dispute for several days before Anderson shot Strong multiple times in the head and neck, according to prosecutors.
On Nov. 2, the two men had a "minor physical" fight, according to prosecutors. On Nov. 3, Strong was standing with two witnesses a little before 1 p.m. near the mouth of an alley between Sawyer and Spaulding avenues when Anderson approached the group and pulled a handgun, pointing it at Strong, prosecutors said.
The group began to argue and the witnesses tried to restrain Anderson, according to prosecutors. Anderson broke away, ran up to Strong and shot him in the head about 12:55 p.m., prosecutors said. Strong fell to the ground and Anderson shot him again before fleeing on foot with his pit bull, prosecutors said.
Strong was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:36 p.m., prosecutors said.
Anderson, of the 2600 block of South Christiana Avenue, was identified by witnesses who gave videotaped statements.
