Man charged in Newcastle for gun found in Sydney strike force raid

STRIKE force police have charged a man with firearms offences in the Hunter following investigations into guns seized in Sydney earlier this year.

Police in July searched a property at Clarence Drive in Elizabeth Hills as part of an investigation into the illicit activities of a group operating across Sydney that began in 2018.

Strike Force Raptor officers allege that search yielded a a Glock pistol, a Beretta pistol, a Desert Eagle pistol, a Smith & Wesson revolver and ammunition.

Police also allege the raid discovered more than 650 grams of methylamphetamine, 580 grams of cocaine, 740 grams of heroin and $347,000 cash.

At the time, officers arrested a 29-year-old man. He remains before the courts.

The firearms have been forensically examined and are expected to undergo ballistic analysis.

Further inquiries led police on Tuesday to arrest a 30-year-old man about 9.30am at Newcastle Police Station.

The man was charged with possess unauthorised prohibited firearm and possess unregistered firearm - pistol. He was remanded in custody to face court on Tuesday.

"Police will allege in court that the man possessed a Beretta pistol seized at the Elizabeth Hills home in July," NSW Police said in a statement. Investigations are ongoing.

Strike Force Raptor was established in 2009 and conducts proactive, high-impact operations to dismantle any network engaged in serious organised criminal activity.

It has conducted a series of high-profile raids on outlaw motorcycle gang premises in the Hunter in recent years and aims to prevent and disrupt conflicts.
