A 26-year-old Country Club Hills man has been charged in a fatal hit-and-run involving another man months ago in south suburban Harvey.
David Martin is charged with leaving the scene of an accident in a Nov. 9, 2019, crash that killed 25-year-old Laval J. White, according to a statement from Harvey police.
Martin was allegedly driving south on Hoyne Avenue about 3:40 a.m. when he drove through a stop sign at 150th Street and hit White, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Martin and an unidentified passenger ran, police said.
White, who lived in Englewood, was taken to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey and pronounced dead, authorities said. An autopsy said he died of trauma from being struck by a vehicle, the medical examiner’s office said.
Martin, of Country Club Hills, was arrested Tuesday and released after posting 10% of his $50,000 bail, according to county records. He also faces charges of disobeying a stop signing and driving an uninsured vehicle.
He is due back in court March 11 in Markham.
