A 34-year-old man is charged with misdemeanor counts of child endangerment and domestic battery after he allegedly barricaded himself in a Gold Coast apartment Monday morning when police showed up to arrest him.

Andre Villa allegedly locked himself in an apartment about 2:30 a.m. in the 400 block of East Ohio Street after neighbors reported a man “knocking and kicking” a door and police were called, Chicago police said.

Villa allegedly beat a 31-year-old woman, who was taken to a hospital in fair condition, police said.

A SWAT team responded because officers were unsure if he was armed, police said.

Villa came out on his own by 5 a.m. and was arrested, police said.

Inside the apartment, officers found a 1-year-old girl unharmed and a 30-year-old woman hiding under clothes in a closet, police said. They were taken to a hospital for observation.

Two other people were arrested at the scene, but they were released without charges, police said.

Villa, who was also charged with a misdemeanor count of resisting an officer, was ordered held on a $2,500 bond, according to court records.
