A man has been charged in connection with the murder of Garda Colm Horkan in Castlerea, Co Roscommon.
The brave officer was shot dead in the line of duty in the late hours of Wednesday night.
Gardai arrested a man in his 40s who is being detained at Castlerea Garda Station.
He has since been charged in relation to the fatal shooting and will appear before a special sitting of Castlerea District Court at 10:30pm this evening, Friday June 19.
Hundreds of local people lined the streets in Ballaghadereen, Co Roscommon to pay their respects to the much-loved detective earlier today.
Dozens of gardai who were stationed with the 49-year-old formed a poignant guard of honour for the highly respected and popular officer.
The hearse pulled up for two-to-three minutes outside Ballaghadereen Garda Station where Det Colm Horkan worked for 13 years.
