Man charged in connection with murder of elderly woman near Loch Ness

The death of a 66-year-old woman near Loch Ness is now being treated as murder, police have confirmed.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident and is due to appear in court tomorrow, December 9.

Officers from Police Scotland were called to an address in Culnakirk, by Drumnadrochit at around 3.40pm on Monday, December 7.

The death had previously been treated as unexplained while a post-mortem examination was carried out.

A Police Scotland statement read: "A 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a 66-year-old woman in Culnakirk, by Drumnadrochit.

"Officers were called to an address around 3.40pm on Monday, 7 December.

"The death is being treated as murder.

"The 33-year-old man is due to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court tomorrow (Wednesday 9 December)."

Detective Chief Inspector Maggie Miller said: “There remains a police presence in the area as officers carry out further enquiries and anyone with information or concerns is urged to speak to these officers or call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 1952 of 7 December.”
