Man charged in connection with deliberate fire at Glasgow church

Police have arrested and charged a man in connection with a deliberate fire at a Glasgow church.

A number of nearby homes were evacuated but thankfully no injuries were reported.

Pictures from the scene showed the charred remains of the 150 year old structure with the roof having caved in and the stained glass windows blown out.

Officers have confirmed they have now arrested and charged at 24-year-old man in connection with the wilful fire-raising.

Police say they are not looking for anyone else but officers will continue to patrol the area.

Detective Inspector Kenny McDonald, Drumchapel CID, said: “We know this fire has been devastating and has caused much distress to the local and wider community. Along with our partners we will continue to support our communities.

“I would like to reassure the public that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and officers will continue to patrol the area."
