Man charged for allegedly driving through Scots town at almost three-times speed limit

A man has been charged with dangerous driving after allegedly traveling at nearly three-times the speed limit through a Scots town.

The 29-year-old is said to have been clocked down 83-miles-per-hour on a 30mph stretch of road in Fraserburgh.

Police Scotland said the speed was recorded in the Aberdeenshire town's South Harbour Road on Monday night.

A post on the force's North East Police Division Facebook page said the incident took place at about 9.30pm on December 19.

It added: "The man is subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal and will appear at Peterhead Sheriff Court at a later date."

Road Policing Sergeant Steve Manson said: "Travelling at high speeds in residential areas is especially dangerous, particularly when roads are affected by rain and low temperatures as your chances of being involved in a crash are increased.

"The consequences of crashing in these circumstances can be devastating and simply not worth the risk.

"Anyone convicted of dangerous driving will face a mandatory driving ban."
