A Lake Macquarie man has been charged as part of an investigation into the alleged sexual abuse of a child last year.
Detectives from the State Crime Command's Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad began their investigation in November after a report that a 12-year-old girl had been sexually abused by a person known to her.
Police arrested a 25-year-old man at Wyong Police Station about 4.30pm on Thursday.
He was charged with seven counts of having sexual intercourse with a child aged between 10 and 14.
Police will allege in court the man provided the girl with prohibited drugs before having sexual intercourse with her on several occasions over a four-day period in September, 2019.
He was refused bail to appear at Wyong Local Court on Friday.
The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
