A man has been charged with committing a violent act causing death at Tennant Creek.

A man accused of a fatal assault at Tennant Creek has been remanded in custody.

Charles Reginald Alum, 41, appeared in court on Tuesday, after being charged with committing a violent act causing death in the outback town, about 500 kilometres north of Alice Springs.

Detectives said the incident occurred following a dispute involving a number of people on February 6.

Three days later, a 44-year-old man was transported to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, but died one week later.

A report will be prepared for the Northern Territory Coroner.

Mr Alum's case was adjourned until May 3.
