Man charged after women held up at 'gunpoint' in city centre

Police today named a man suspected of being behind an attempted robbery in Liverpool city centre.

Shortly after 1pm on Wednesday, June 9, two women entered the lift at Q Park on Hanover Street, when a man also got in holding what appeared to be a firearm.

He threatened the women and demanded them to hand over cash and their mobile phones.

But when they refused to do so, the man made off on foot empty handed in the direction of Gradwell Street.

Today Merseyside Police confirmed a 50-year-old man, who was arrested on Thursday, has now been charged in connection with the incident.

Eric Pike, 50, of no fixed address, has been charged with attempted robbery and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit a Section 1 offence.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear in court this morning (Saturday 12 June).
