Man charged after weapons haul allegedly found in Cardiff home

A man has been charged after dozens of illegal weapons - including a pistol and swords - were allegedly found at a Cardiff home.

Lake Macquarie police went to a unit on Macquarie Road about 3.45pm on Monday in relation to a concern for welfare call.

When they arrived, officers spoke with an 11-year-old boy and a 36-year-old man.

Police went inside the unit and allegedly discovered a gel-blaster rifle, pistol, pellets, swords, knives and drug paraphernalia.

They arrested the 36-year-old and returned later with a search warrant.

During the search, police allegedly found more than 60 prohibited items including gel-blasters, 11 sling shots, four extendable batons, three tasers, three knuckle dusters, two crossbows, several knives - including machetes, throwing knives and swords - fireworks and a white substance believed to be cocaine.

The man was charged with 32 offences including possess prohibited weapon without permit, possess unauthorised firearm, and possess ammunition without permit.

He was refused bail and will face Toronto Local Court.
