Man charged after targeted fire attack at Greenock flat

A man has been arrested and charged after a targeted fire attack in Inverclyde.

Emergency crews were called to Belville Street in Greenock on Sunday.

The alarm was raised just after 5am after reports of a blaze at a block of flats in the area.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service officers put out the inferno.

Nobody was injured as a result of the incident.

On Monday morning police revealed that a 52-year-old man had been arrested and charged in connection with the fire.

He is due to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court on Monday.

A Police Scotland spokesman tole the Record: “We received a report of a fire in a close of a block of flats in Belville Street in Greenock around 5.10am on Sunday, May 23.

“Emergency services attended and the fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

"No one was injured.

“A 52-year-old was arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

"He is due to appear at Greenock Sherriff Court on Monday, May 24."
