A man has been charged after a shooting in Melbourne's southwest which resulted in a hospital being locked down for two hours.
Three people got into a verbal dispute near a fast-food store in St Albans on Sunday morning before a shot was fired into the back windscreen of a blue Holden Commodore, police alleged.
A man and woman inside the car allegedly fled towards Sunshine Hospital and crashed into a responding marked police vehicle.
They then ran in different directions, with the woman later arrested inside the hospital and the man a block away.
The hospital was locked down for about two hours while police searched a nearby construction site and surrounding areas, Acting Senior Sergeant Ben McGibbon told reporters on Sunday.
Police charged a 20-year-old Brooklyn man with committing reckless conduct endangering life, while a 21-year-old Werribee woman was released pending further inquiries.
The man was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on September 6.
