Man charged after serious assault in city centre leaves person in critical condition

Gardai have charged a man in relation to an assault that left another man in critical condition in hospital.

A man was taken to St James' Hospital with a serious head injury in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to D'Olier Street near the junction at Fleet Street shortly after 2.30am this morning, where a man in his mid 20s was discovered seriously injured.

A man in his 30s has been charged in relation to the assault and is due to appear in court on Monday.

A spokesman said: "Gardaí have charged a man (30s) following the serious assault that occurred in Dublin City Centre in the early hours of Sunday, 17th April, 2022.

"He will appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice (Court No.3) on Monday morning, 18th April 2022, at 10.30am."
