March 23--An Orland Park man has been charged with attempted robbery after trying to steal the purse of a 62-year-old female shopper, who suffered minor injuries after being dragged by the man across the parking lot of Aldi, police said Wednesday.
The robbery attempt happened a little before 5 p.m. Tuesday, with the woman telling police she had just pulled into the parking lot of the store, 13145 LaGrange Road, and was retrieving items from the trunk of her car when a man came up behind her and grabbed her purse, which was slug over her shoulder, Orland Park police said in a news release.
Later arrested in the theft attempt was Keith Siedlinski, 32, 14053 S. 85th Ave., Orland Park, police said.
Siedlinski pulled the woman to the ground and through the parking lot before letting go of the purse, then ran north across 131st Street into a wooded area.
Orland Park police officers established a perimeter, with assistance from Palos Park police and Cook County Sheriff's Police, and a sheriff's department officer spotted Siedlinski hiding behind some trees. He was apprehended after a brief foot chase, according to the release. Siedlinski, taken into custody about 10 minutes after the theft attempt, was identified by witnesses, police said.
Paramedics examined the victim, who suffered soreness and abrasions but was not taken to the hospital, police said.
Bail for Siedlinski was set Wednesday at $100,000. He has prior felony convictions for possession of a controlled substance and escaping electronic monitoring and will return to the Bridgeview courthouse on the attempted robbery charge April 7.
