Man charged after pipe bomb found in house

A 52-year-old man has been charged with an offence under the Explosive Substances Act after a pipe bom b was found in a Liverpool home.

Police were called to Sunlight Street in Anfield on April 17 following reports of an incident.

An army Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team and crews from Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service also attended the scene.

The bomb squad found the device found in the hallway of a home consisted of a metal pipe filled with gunpowder.

The device failed to explode and there were no injuries.

Yesterday police executed a search warrant at an address on Hilary Road in relation to the incident on Sunlight Street.

Today police said that Mohammed Ali, of Hilary Road, has been charged with an offence under Section 3 of the Explosive Substances Act 1883.

Ali has been remanded into custody and is set to appear before Liverpool magistrates court today ( May 30).
