A man is charged with attempted murder after police officers allegedly saw him stand over a shooting victim in Austin on the West Side.
Jimmie Sessom, 36, shot the man Tuesday morning in the 900 block of North Lawler Avenue, Chicago police said.
Officers were called over by a witness at 9:40 a.m. and found the victim lying in the middle of the street, bleeding and gasping for air, police said. An officer applied pressure to the wound and called for an ambulance.
The man, 30, was shot in his lower abdomen and lower back and taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
Officers arrested Sessom minutes later and recovered a weapon, police said.
Sessom is also charged with aggravated battery with a weapon and armed habitual criminal. Court records show he has several past drug convictions.
He was expected in court later Thursday.
