Man charged after nurse and health care assistant injured at Daisy Hill hospital

A nurse was cut in the neck and a health care assistant suffered puncture wounds during an attack a Co Armagh Hospital.

Detectives are investigating an incident where hospital staff were injured at Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry in the early hours of Saturday, May 15.

A nurse suffered cuts to her neck and chin during the incident while a health care assistant received a puncture wound to his side.

A 57-year-old man has since been charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Detectives investigating an incident at Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry on Saturday, in which a nurse suffered a cut to her neck/chin area and a health care assistant sustained a puncture wound to his side, have charged a 57 year old man with two counts of grievous bodily harm and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.

"The man is due to appear at Newry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 16th June.

"As is normal procedure all charges are reviewed by the PPS."
