Man charged after number of life-saving drugs stolen in Kilmarnock

A man has been charged with the theft of prescription drugs from a storage unit in East Ayshire.

Bottles of morphine, along with tablets of diazepam - more commonly known as valium - pregablin and nitrazepam were allegedly stolen in Kilmarnock on Saturday.

Police are asking people in Ayrshire who may have been offered stolen prescription drugs to come forward with information.

The 40-year-old man has been released to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court at a later date.

Detective inspector Nathan Calderwood said: "The drugs stolen could have potentially serious or fatal consequences if they are taken by anyone for whom they are not prescribed.

"We have been carrying out inquiries in the Ayrshire area to trace the stolen items and I would urge anyone who comes across any discarded medication to hand it into their local police office.

"I would also ask anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the stolen medication to contact Kilmarnock police office through 101 quoting reference number 0930 of the April 18."
