Man charged after 'guns and ammo' found during police raid in Renfrewshire

A man has been charged after guns and ammunition were found after a raid by Scots cops.

A 55-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with alleged firearm offences after the intelligence-led operation in Erskine, Renfrewshire on Saturday, August 22, police have said.

He is due to appear in court today.

Officers from Police Scotland swooped and discovered 'a number' of guns as well as ammunition after the raid in Douglas Crescent.

A police statement read: "Police Scotland can confirm a 55-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with alleged firearms offences in Renfrewshire.

"As part of an ongoing, intelligence-led operation, officers searched a property in Douglas Crescent, Erskine, on Saturday, 22 August, 2020, and recovered a number of firearms and ammunition.

"The 55-year-old man is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, August 24, in connection with the recovery."

Detective Inspector Martin McGhee, of Police Scotland's Specialist Crime Division, said: "We have recovered a number of firearms and ammunition following an intelligence-led operation.

"I would urge anyone who has information about the criminal use of firearms to contact Police Scotland on 101. Your information will be treated with the utmost confidence.

"If you would prefer to remain anonymous, you can pass on information through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
