Man charged after five-figure sum stolen from two men at Edinburgh city centre bank

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged early morning robbery in Edinburgh .

Police raced to the Royal Bank of Scotland on St Andrew Square at 1.40am on Sunday, August 25, after reports that a five-figure sum of money had been stolen.

Two workers, aged 27 and 57, were attempting to deposit cash at the bank when they were allegedly approached by men in balaclavas.

A 24-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incident while enquiries remain ongoing.

He is due to to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday, August 29.

Police Scotland cordoned off the bank while the force carried out their investigation into the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Graham Grant from Corstorphine CID described it as an ‘isolated incident’ a she appealed fro witnesses.

He added: “The centre of Edinburgh was busy last night and we urge anyone who saw the incident to get in touch via 101 quoting incident number 0491 of August 25.”
