May 08--A Chicago man had multiple drugs and alcohol in his system when he crashed his car into a viaduct in January, killing one of his passengers, prosecutors said Saturday.
Dazell Boutte, 19, was driving on Jan. 9 near the 1700 block of South Western Avenue in Chicago with a 21-year-old man in the front seat and a 22-year-old in the back seat, prosecutors said.
Witnesses saw Boutte's car driving fast and veering left of center in wet conditions, prosecutors said. Boutte, of the 1600 block of North Tripp Avenue, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a concrete viaduct, killing the backseat passenger, prosecutors said.
The victim was Dewattia Barlow, police said.
Witnesses identified Boutte as the driver of the vehicle, including good samaritans who helped get the passenger and Boutte out of the car, prosecutors said. The backseat passenger, Barlow, appeared to be dead and could not be moved, prosecutors said.
All three men were taken to Stroger Hospital, where Barlow was pronounced dead, prosecutors said.
A DUI kit was administered on Boutte, prosecutors said. Boutte tested positive for multiple substances including alcohol, MDMA, amphetamine, methamphetamine, and THC, prosecutors said.
Boutte was charged with aggravated DUI and ordered held in lieu of $300,000 bail by Cook County Circuit Court judge Donald Panarese.
